Why weeks are easier than months

Weeks are the one unit of calendar math that behaves predictably. Every week is seven days, no exceptions, no leap-year adjustments. So 6 weeks from today is always exactly 42 days from today, and it always falls on the same weekday you started from.

That last property is genuinely useful. If today is a Tuesday, then 2 weeks, 8 weeks, and 30 weeks from today are all Tuesdays. You can sanity check any weeks-based result in about two seconds just by looking at the day name.

What people are usually counting

Pregnancy is probably the single biggest reason people search this. Prenatal care runs on a week count from the start, so "how many weeks along" and "what date is week 20" come up constantly.

Work sprints and project cycles use the same rhythm. Two-week sprints, six-week build cycles, twelve-week quarters. If you are planning backwards from a launch, the weeks math is what you actually need.

Training and course schedules run in weeks too. Couch-to-5K, a 12-week strength block, a bootcamp that ends on a specific Friday.

And plenty of employment contracts specify notice in weeks rather than days, which means working out the real end date before you hand anything in.

Frequently asked questions

Does the result always land on the same weekday?

Yes. Since a week is exactly seven days, adding any whole number of weeks keeps you on the same day of the week. If today is Thursday, 9 weeks from today is also a Thursday.

How many days is 6 weeks?

42 days. Multiply the number of weeks by 7 to get the day count: 4 weeks is 28 days, 12 weeks is 84 days, 40 weeks is 280 days.

Can I count weeks backwards?

Yes. Switch the operation to subtract and it will count back from your start date instead.

Does it account for leap years?

It does not need to for the weekday, since weeks are fixed at seven days. But the calculator still uses the real calendar for the date itself, so a February 29 in the range is handled correctly.
